Calcareous shoulder

Calcareous shoulder

For reasons that are not completely explained, calcium deposits occur in structures close to the shoulder joint, usually in the supraspinatus tendon, between the humerus and the acromion.

Calcified shoulder can occur as a result of or as an accompanying condition with shoulder impingement.

Finding the cause is an important part of physiotherapy to enable causative treatment. Occupation, lifestyle, posture and relevant accompanying diseases all play a role in the treatment of the symptoms.

Treatment with physiotherapy to centre the joint, improve posture, strengthen muscles and relieve pressure can be the key to long-term success.
